There’s no need to be afraid
If you have read my About page you’ll know that I am devoting this blog to the pursuit of healthy eating aimed primarily at people with Diabetes. However, for those of you without this condition my hope is that you stay that way – none diabetic.
And so a heads up…
I am not a doctor; I am in no way connected to the medical community.
I do think it is important for you to understand that and if in any doubt, I advise you to seek professional medical advice regarding dieting.
Myself – well, I’ve self-harmed, abused whatever you want to label it as, for years. I am an addict – I rarely knew when to stop eating and my self-harm came in the form of a burger or fries or., or…It didn’t really matter, if it was food, I’d eat it and I know the World is littered with people like I used to be. On occasions I still can be but I have developed a support network of friends that I can turn to to ‘bring myself down’; and over the last five years I’ve reduced my weight from 21st to a more manageable 16st. My goal is to achieve 14st then I’ll take stock and see how I look then.
Food addiction is no less an addiction than that of taking drugs or alcohol it’s just more visible as the pounds pile on but my wake up call happened about 5 years ago. I was presented with a small word that would impact the rest of my life – Diabetes. Don’t underestimate this word – the effects of this word if you don’t take care of yourself can be…
- Cardiovascular disease
- Retinopathy (eyes)
- Nerve damage
- Nephropathy (kidney issues)
- Mastopahy (breast issues)
- and more.
Signs of diabetes are, but not limited to…
- Increased thirst
- Extreme tiredness
- Unexplained weight loss
- Genital itching or regular episodes of thrush
- etc., etc.,
If in doubt – go see your doctor.
So, I’ll be sharing recipes mainly that I have discovered or made up that help those with diabetes. I will also be sharing my knowledge about GI and GL diets that have suddenly become en-vogue over the last couple of years especially. And if the latest and/or greatest celeb waxes lyrically about this new GI or GL diet then don’t switch off but rather do your own research.
I have to thank my local Doctor for talking with me about the GI diet -Dr Gurr from Almondbury Surgery here in the UK, a public thank you for your time, wisdom and patience…you are a great man.
Finally, please, please feedback on my blog and if you have recipes, lifestyle habits that have a positive impact share them although I will be moderating the comments. Keep them relevant, try to remove any prejudices out of your posts – no pointing fingers, no blame, jus positive reinforcement all the way.
Thank you.

Thanks Sandra although I really must update the blog…I’ve been rather distracted with other life stuff.
